Designer wanted: Theatre Exterior

Shred Productions is looking for an exceptional designer to work on a brand new site-specific commission, which will headline the Theatre Exterior programme at Chorlton Arts Festival 2015.

Now in its 15th year, the festival continues to act as a conduit for the best emerging talent in the region to appear alongside established artists from around the world. As a result, it has become one of the most acclaimed multi-arts events in the UK, attracting audiences of around 15,000 in 2014.

The award-winning company behind Sherica (2012 Manchester Theatre Award) and South (The Lowry, 2013) has teamed up with Chorlton Arts Festival to bring this innovative live performance event to Manchester with the support of the Arts Council England.

Transforming an everyday location into a dynamic moving theatre space, this production will explore how we journey through and get to know a city and the importance of making strong connections with the people who live alongside us. Bringing vivid performance and ambitious storytelling to a truly unexpected venue, this unique theatre event will celebrate the city and ask what it means to live in Manchester in 2015.

We need a designer to work with us to maximise the potential of the space and facilitate the script from page to stage. The designer must work within budget to provide costume for a cast of two and ensure the project has an overall aesthetic that meets the needs of the script. Working closely with the director, sound designer and writer, the designer will be a key member of the team and must  have the determination to go the extra mile. Experience of site specific work would be an advantage.

The designer will not be required to provide a model but some concept drawings will be needed. Shred will provide detailed floor plans and technical drawings of the space upon appointment.

Please note that design and production meetings will take place in Manchester.
